FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Save a Tree, Read Some Comic Ebooks
For years, Webcomics have been striving fill the shoes of their looming predecessor, the comic book. Today, readers can access comics online anywhere there is internet access, which is almost as convenient as picking up a comic book. Almost. But, even though internet access is readily available in many public places, nothing still comes close to having a comic book handy on a long trip, while commuting, or even in the living room while you're trying to relax.
Years ago, it was rare for people to carry mobile phones or a laptops, so comic books were the only outlet for comics creators. But now, technology that makes reading ebooks simple continues to emerge, such as the mini laptop, mobile phone technology, and stand-alone ebook readers. Comic Domination is a new website that takes advantage of the new techology available, and strives to make comics accessible to anyone with an internet connection.
"The comic book market has struggled since after the boom in the early 90's. And, since then, it seems like there has been a gap that has needed to be filled," said J.T. Blevins, founder of Comic Domination. "Publishers were able to pull in new readers with flashy covers, artist exploitation, crossovers, and buying incentives, but after awhile all that died down. Then, all the comic book movies started coming out, and it still didn't help sales a lot. People like comics, or they wouldn't have lasted for over 100 years like they have."
Publishing comic books in ebook format is not a new concept. Ebooks have been around for years, and some ebook sites even have special sections just for comics. But, because of the cost of PDF conversion software and a lack of a centralized market for eComics, artists generally stick to conventional comics or simply and posting their pages as webcomics. There are also other sites such as Comic Genesis and Drunk Duck, who offer webcomic hosting but Comic Domination wants to take web publishing one step further and bring artists to the readers.
"People may not be entirely ready for eComics, but we're going to push them forward as much as we can." Blevins remains optimistic about the electronic format: "I mean, why not? You've got to start somewhere. We have the technology, but the product as a whole is unorganized." Comic Domination pushes to simply organize the way webcomic authors publish their webcomics, making it easier to upload, publish, and create a page for their comics. And readers are able to log on to post comments, add pages and comic series to their favorites, download eComics in PDF format, and track updates and statuses from other readers and creators.
When it comes to new technology and new products, convenience is key. And, that is what will make the eComic successful. Laptops have had PDF reading capabilities for years. People already carry laptops for school or work, so eComics are already accessable to them. Many smartphones, such as the Droid, the enV Touch, among many others, now offer the capability to read PDFs, which now allows people access to reading material on their phones. With technology expanding, new doors have opened for comics creators worldwide, and it offers a new venue for one of America's most beloved pasttimes. So, as a reader or a comic creator, or both, if you want to join the revolution, go to
